Veszprém Spectre & Glory ~
A Brocken Spectre looms over the city of Veszprém, Hungary. A startling image by Tamás Ladányi (, TWAN) whose shadow was projected through morning mist as he stood on a tall building.   ©Tamás Ladányi

The Glory
.. is far more complicated. Fog droplets scatter light. The scattered waves form the ringed diffraction pattern centred on the antisolar point.

Unlike the simple Brocken shadow, the glory has no easily visualized explanation. The classical ray path above is impossible for water spheres.

The observer is inside the shadow tube and sees arm and leg shadows converging towards the head. A form of anticrepuscular rays
